Day #1 - January 4th, 2020 - travel day
Greetings! I am writing this post from gate 16 in terminal 8 of JFK International airport.
Our day began when we met at NEC at 10AM and boarded our bus:
Many thanks to Dan Freese, NEC staff member superstar who volunteered to drive us 5+ hours to JFK airport in NYC. If someone you care about is on this trip, send Dan a note of thanks for his champion efforts to get us there safely and on time!
We arrived at JFK at 3PM, about 4 hours before our flight. Given the difficulties of traveling with such a large group, that was just about the right amount of time!
We checked in with Latam airlines for our 7PM flight to Santiago:
We arrived at the gate about 90 minutes prior to our departure, which gave us enough time to gather and get snacks for the flight.
Everyone is very excited to get going!
We fly overnight to Santiago. There, we will go through immigration, customs, and transfer to a domestic Latam Airlines flight to Punta Arenas. From there, we will take a bus to our hotel, arriving by dinner on Sunday.
I have no idea what the Internet situation will be down there, so it's possible that this will be my last post for a while. Don't despair if you don't hear from me - it just means that the Internet connection is bad! Always assume that no news is good news.
Thank you for following along. You can contact your loved ones through the Comments section beneath each post. I will make sure that they receive the message.
Next time from Chile!
